Who he is

Janah started out behind the mixing desk. At fourteen he was the sound engineer for Hague singer Ed Bernardo, and at fifteen he gave his first solo performance. He became the house singer at De Jungle in Scheveningen. On the Dutch TV talent show Soundmixshow he won his episode as René Froger and reached the final.

Albums of his own followed, and the JMT Gents, a trio with Mike Peterson and Tino Martin that sold out the World Forum in The Hague. In 2019 the regional broadcaster TV West followed him in a series leading up to two concerts of his own at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen. The album Live At The Kurhaus came out in 2021.

Five worlds

Janah calls his repertoire five worlds: Dutch songs, English classics, Spanish songs, gypsy and rumba, and opera. Most evenings use more than one. A Dutch sing-along for one table, My Way for the next, then a Spanish number that gets everyone on their feet.

That is why he works well for a mixed crowd. Expats and Dutch colleagues at the same company party. Two families at a wedding who don't share a language. He changes language when the room asks for it, and he talks to people between the songs. He is a host as much as a singer.

Solo, with a band or with The Gypsies

  • Solo. Janah on his own, singing to backing tracks. Takes little space and fits almost any programme: a surprise at a birthday, a moment during dinner, a short set at a reception.
  • With a band. Live musicians for a bigger room and a dance floor that has to fill up. The line-up depends on the venue and the number of guests.
  • With The Gypsies. Janah with guitarists Popy Basily and Jonay Guillermo: rumba, flamenco and Spanish classics. More on Janah & The Gypsies.

What it costs

A 30-minute solo set starts from € 1,495 excl. VAT and Buma (Dutch music rights). With a band or with The Gypsies the price is on request, because it depends on the line-up, the length of the set and the travel.

How to book

  1. Send your date, the venue, the occasion and roughly how many guests.
  2. You hear whether the date is free. Then you talk through the format, the length and the songs that have to be in there.
  3. You get a proposal with the price. If it all fits, the arrangements are put in writing.

He is very flexible: almost anything is possible by arrangement.
